Siemens Turkey's Transportation Unit Head Cüneyt Genç: “Investments are Continued without Cutting Speed”

“6 high speed train sets specially designed for Turkey will be started to be operated on Turkey’s lines within the current year. We closely follow the investment programs in the sector, we have provided considerable resources in the field of high speed trains in Turkey and we are closely interested in new tenders.”

Siemens Turkey's Transportation Unit Head Cüneyt Genç stated that 6 high speed train sets specially designed for Turkey will be started to be operated on Turkey’s lines within the current year.

Genç said that the first of the 7 train sets procured by TCDD from Siemens started operations on Ankara-Konya line in May 2015 and the final set of 100 meters will be delivered to Turkey at the soonest. Genç pointing out that the train sets in question have been delivered 4 months earlier than the stipulated date in the contract signed with TCDD, made the following statement:

“We are successfully operating one of these sets presently on Ankara-Konya line. This single train set operates with the highest availability rate in the world despite difficulties in maintenance and operation. On the other hand, the last train set which is exhibited at Innotrans Berlin 2016 Fair will be delivered to Turkey upon being sent to Vienna. 6 high speed train sets specially designed for Turkey will be started to be operated on Turkey’s lines within the current year.”

As will be known, we reported that Siemens having received an order for 7 high speed train sets from TCDD was expected to deliver the first 5 high speed train sets until the end of October TEBA:1753/ February 17, 2016.

“We are ready to spend all efforts in local and national production”

Genç pointing out that they closely follow the investment programs in the sector, said that investments in Turkey are continued without cutting speed. Genç also stated that they have provided considerable resources in the field of high speed trains in Turkey and are closely interested in new tenders.

Genç stating that they have previously taken decision on the necessity of the final assembly and the manufacturing of Siemens tramcars in Turkey, said “We are not in a position of having planned this as a result of an order made by Turkey. Our decision is in relation with targeting a high level of adequacies and supply chain in Turkey.”

Genç emphasizing their support to the local and national production strategy of the Government, said “There is the plan of manufacturing the national train upon safeguarding a proportion of over 50 percent in local production by suppliers and sub-contractors in Turkey. We wish that the indigenization and technology transfer experience of Siemens in the field as a technology partner is taken into account. Turkey has to choose its partner in the field from among those firms which assign resources to R&D in the real sense and are leaders in technology.” Genç said that they are ready to spend all efforts in local and national production.

Velaro series is the latest generation in the high speed train platform

Velaro series train sets which are the latest generation in the high speed train platform having been awarded the “Red Dot” which is a design quality award for the harmony in the interior and exterior design will be operated on present lines between Ankara-Eskişehir, Ankara-Istanbul and Istanbul-Konya besides Ankara-Konya line, and on Ankara-Sivas and Ankara-Izmir high speed train lines which are under construction. These new high speed train sets capable of making a speed of 320 km per hour constitute a distinguished series compared to the other trains in the series by large restaurant sections, specially designed business class compartments and highly developed entertainment and telecommunication systems.

There are extensive safety systems in these state of the art new high speed train sets regarding vehicle safety and train control systems. Necessary measures are being taken automatically by the system in case any drawbacks occur in the vehicle.
