CPI and DPPI Figures for the Month of December Are Disclosed

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) disclosed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Domestic Producer Price Index (DPPI) figures for the month of December.

Consumer Price Index (CPI) displayed an increase of 1.64 % in December compared to the previous month, an increase of 8.53 % compared to December last year, an increase of 8.53 % in comparison with the same month of the previous year and an increase of 7.78 % according to the 12-month averages. On the other hand, Domestic Producer Price Index (DPPI) in December 2016 displayed an increase of 2.98 % compared to the last month, by 9.94 % compared to December last year, by 9.94 % in comparison with the same month of the previous year and by 4.30 % according to the 12-month averages.

DPPI decreased by 6.01 percent in the crude oil and natural gas sector

Sub-sectors where indices displayed the highest level of increases in comparison with the previous month are listed as coke and refined oil products with 17.58 %, main metals with 8.63 % and metal ore with 3.96 %. In return, sub-sectors that displayed the sharpest fall in prices are listed as crude oil and natural gas with 6.01 %, tobacco products with 2.52 %, and wood and cork products (excl. furniture) with 0.34 %.                   

The highest monthly increase realized in energy products and the annual increase in intermediate goods in December 2016 according to classification of main industrial groups.

The highest level of increase in the CPI realized in the alcoholic beverages and tobacco group at a rate of 31.59 %

In terms of main expenditure groups, an increase of 3.29 % is recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages, 1.97 % in transportation, 1.42 % in entertainment and culture, and 1.42 % in household goods in December 2016. Another group which displayed a decrease in December 2016 in terms of main expenditure groups has been the communication sector at a rate of 0.14 %.

Transportation at a rate of 12.36 %, miscellaneous commodities and services with 11.08 %, health with 9.73 % and education with 9.47 % are the other main expenditure groups that displayed the high levels of increases in the CPI compared to the same month last year.
