KGM’s Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Motorway Project

Foundation has been laid. President Erdoğan, "We will be here for inauguration of the bridge 5 years after. This bridge is number one bridge of the world."

Yapı Merkezi İnşaat Executive Board Chairman Arıoğlu, "We take best engineering know-how and apply them. This may lead the way for other bridges to come along."

Limak Holding Executive Board Chairman Özdemir, "this will be a project prepared by the biggest design companies of the world. We plan to complete within 4 years."

The foundation laying ceremony has been held on March 18, 2017 in Lapseki county Şekerkaya quarter after the awaited contract signed with the Joint Venture composed of Yapı Merkezi-Limak-Daelim and SK to assume the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model Çanakkale Bridge to be realized by the Highways General Directorate (KGM) subordinated to the Ministry of Transportation, Maritime Affairs and Communication (UDH).

President Tayyip Erdoğan has participated in the ceremony through teleconference and said, "We will be here for inauguration of the bridge 5 years after. This bridge is number one bridge of the world. In the same way, we construct number one airport of the world in İstanbul. It will reach 150 million passenger capacity in 2023. There is no equivalent in the world."

Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said "In a way we instaled a bridge from past to future. Today we connect Asia to Europe for the 6 times. By 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, the Strait will be crossed in 3-4 minutes, not in 45 minutes".

UDH Bakanı Ahmet Arslan said "As it is the case until today, we will realize entire projects not only in Çanakkale but in 81 provinces of the country for easing the life of people."

As it might be recalled, the contract was signed at a ceremony on March 16, 2017 by UDH Minister Ahmet Arslan and South Korean Republic Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation Ho-In Kang TEBA:1807/ March 16, 2017. In the tender launched by Highways General Directorate (KGM), Turk-S.Korean Joint Venture was offered TL 10 billion 154 million investment cost and 16 years 2 months 12 days operation period. Turk-Japon Joint Venture group has offered 17 years 10 months 24 days operation period. Other bidding groups were IC İçtaş+Astaldi (Italy), Cengiz+Kolin+CRBC (PRC) Joint Ventures (TEBA:1800/ January 26, 2017).

"Most aerodynamic bridge of the world"

Barış Arıoğlu, Executive Board Chairman of contractor Yapı Merkezi İnşaat, has made statements to the press representives. Arıoğlu said, “1915 Bridge will be the longest suspension bridge and most dynamic bridge of the world. If your do not do this, project cannot be strong and efficient. In terms of earthquakes, it will be highly affected from earthquakes because it is 10 km disctance to Northern Anatolian Fault. It will be a bridge to compete with the bridge in Japan, most close to eqrthquake zone. Bridge in Japan is one solid piece. This bridge will have two individual platforms srongly connected to each other. There will be air circulation between the two platforms. In wind storms, by mixing the air circulation will prevent the bridge to fly. When the middle part is left open, you have an aerodynamic bridge. Wind is the major problem, earthquake is the second important issue. We have taken precautions for both. This bridge will be similar of Osmangazi Bridge. We can use a similar solution in Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. We take best engineering know-how and apply them. This may lead the way for other bridges to come along. There are lots of bridges constructed in China. This record can be broken soon. But, this bridge will be a turning point in engineering history like other bridges. People will pay 15 Euro plus VAT crossing fee".

"Bridge construction to start soon"

Speaking on behalf of Daelim-Limak-SK-Yapı Merkezi OGG Group, Limak Holding Executive Board Chairman Nihat Özdemir has noted that they intended to complete the in 4 years and said, "Bridge will be the longerst of the world. We founded a partnership for realizing the longest bridge with 2023 m tower span. Among the bridges constructed until today, the widest tower span bridge of the is 1920 m bridge. When we realize this the world record will be of Turkey. Project will be prepared by the biggest designer companies of the world. We will start constructions on the bridge soon. Right now, design and static calculations are being made on the basis of basic surveys. Turkey has every intention to be among first 10 economies of the world in 2023. 5.bridge is about to be realized. It will contribute a lot to the economy. We plan to complete the bridge in next 4 years."
