We reported in our last news on the matter that Yapı Merkezi Group signed a contract for High-Speed Train Lines worth $1.2 billion with Tanzanian Railways, and that the Project would start in March 2017 and estimated to complete in 30 months. The contract included construction of all engineering services, infrastructure works, procurement and installation of railway tracks, signalization and communication systems of Dar es Salaam-Morogoro Railway Line that will be built as a single 207-km line TEBA:1802/ February 9, 2017.

The Line Will Connect Uganda, Rwanda, Congo, and Tanzania

The first electric-powered rail system with standard span length (1435 mm) that will be built in Tanzania, the Dar es Salaam-Morogoro Railway Line will allow Dar es Salaam - one of the most prominent tourist attractions in Africa - to thrive in commerce and tourism. The line will be made up of five parts, and connect Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Tanzania together. It will also open East Africa to the Indian Ocean.

Planned by the Railway Administration of Tanzania (RAHCO), the 1224-km high-capacity railway line between Dar es Salaam and Mwanza was divided into 5 parts and then opened for tender. The Dar es Salaam-Morogoro part that will be built by a Joint Venture led by Yapı Merkezi, is the most critical part of the line under planning. Important for the status of Dar es Salaam as a port city, the Project will make a great contribution to the commerce and tourism in Tanzania in addition to allowin landlocked countries such as Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo to export their rich underground resources.
