Gazprom’s Turkish Stream Project

In the announcement by Gazprom, it is reported that as of May 6, 2017, under sea construction works started, Project partner Swedish Allseas Group starting pipe laying process under the Black Sea

Reportedly, an important stage has reached in Russian Gazprom’s Turkish Stream Project, the intergovernmental agreement on which was signed between Turkey and Russia in October 2016 for transmitting Russian gas to Turkey and then to Europe under the Black Sea.

In the announcement of Gazprom, it is reported that as of May 6, 2017, under sea construction works started, Project partner Swedish Allseas Group started to lay pipes under the Black Sea with the ship called Audacia. Gazprom Executive Board Chairman Alexey Miller said in his announcement, "until the end of 2019, Turkish and European consumers will have a new and reliable Russian gas source".

As is known, an intergovernmental agreement was signed between Turkey and Russia in October 2016 for Turkish Stream to reach Turkish territorial waters and carry gas to Europe border TEBA:November 29, 2016

Turkish Stream will proceed along the Black Sea on Russian part of Black Sea as parallel two pipelines, to reach Kıyıköy at Turkey coast of Black Sea, then to Lüleburgaz to be connected to gas system of Turkey. Two pipelines will carry annually total 31.5 bcm gas. Land pipeline will be constructed on Turkey soil from Lüleburgaz to Europe border and part of gas will be transported to Europe through this way. Construction of pipeline on Turkish soil will be assumed by BOTAŞ and Gazprom jointly. 

As it might be recalled, most recently Prime Ministry had released a Circular, in respect of fulfilling the responsibilities on time by Turkish Government, to the effect that all applications and procedures by Turkish public entities and establishments related to the project to be completed rightway TEBA:April 5, 2017.
