The Annual Increase in CPI in May 2017 Realized as 11.72 Percent

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) disclosed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the Domestic Producer Price Index (DPPI) figures for the month of May 2017. According to the disclosure, the annual inflation rate in Turkey has been determined 11.72 percent.

An increase of 0.45 % is realized in CPI for the month of May 2017 compared to the previous month, an increase of 6.18 % compared to December last year, an increase of 11.72 % compared to the same month last year and 9.09 % according to the 12-month averages.

In terms of main expenditure groups, an increase of 2.42 % realized in May 2017 in entertainment and culture, 0.90 % in education, 0.89 % in restaurants and hotels, and 0.77 % in household goods. The group that displayed the highest rate of decrease on a monthly basis has been miscellaneous goods & services at a rate of 0.91 %.

On the other hand DPPI displayed an increase of 0.52 % in May 2017 compared to the previous month, 7.74 % compared to December last year, an increase of 15.26 % compared to the same month last year and 9.02 % according to the 12-month averages.

The changes in the four sectors of industry compared to the previous month realized as a decrease of 0.54 % in mining & quarry sector, an increase of 0.57 % in the manufacturing sector, an increase of 0.31 % in the electricity & gas sector and an increase of 0.72 % in the water sector. The highest rates of increase compared to the previous month realized as 3.24 % in furniture products, 2.73 % in computers, electronic and optical products, and 1.97 % in tobacco products. In return, coke and refined oil products with a decrease of 5.87 %, metal ore with a decrease of 2.05 %, and crude oil and natural gas with a decrease of 1.20 % have been the sub-sectors with the highest rates of decrease in indices compared to the previous month.
