22nd World Petroleum Congress

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan: "We have started to expedite our investments in nuclear energy. Once Akkuyu and Sinop Nuclear Power Plants are commissioned, we will satisfy at least 10 percent of our energy need from them. We have added our national capital to the Akkuyu Project that we execute with Russia, making it much stronger. We want to start construction as soon as possible at Sinop Project as well. We talked the matter over with the Japanese Prime Minister Abe at the last G20 meeting. We have even started our efforts for the third nuclear power plant project."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made important statements at the 22nd World Petroleum Congress.

President Erdoğan: "Foreign dependence in energy should be reduced and domestic resources should be used to the greatest extent in order to achieve a sustainable growth in Turkey. Inputting an additional 50,000 megawatts of installed capacity into the system by 2023 is the only way we can meet the energy demand that will double within the next 30 years. We are developing policies under 6 titles in order to meet this demand... We have started to intensify our efforts for nuclear energy.

Erdoğan also said: "We are installing a system that will store at least 20 percent of annual consumption of natural gas. Increasing the rate of naturalization in production of energy technologies will be one of the most outstanding innovations. We are determined to turn Turkey into an energy base where technologies with high added value are manufactured in this field... Power generation from domestic resources has reached 49.3 with a record increase. We have increased the share of domestic coal in power generation to 23 percent. We have also outpaced many countries including primarily Europe with 31 percent increase from renewable energy resources."
