Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) Disclosed the Unemployment Figures for the Month of December 2017

The unemployment rate realized at a level of 10.4 percent displaying a decrease of 2.3 percent compared to the same period of the previous year

Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) disclosed the unemployment data for the month of December 2017. The number of unemployed people at an age of 15 and over is recorded as 3 million 291 thousand overall Turkey decreasing by 581,000 people compared to the same period of the previous year. The unemployment rate on the other hand realized at a level of 10.4 percent decreasing by 2.3 percent.

Non-agricultural unemployment has been estimated as 12.3 percent for the same period decreasing by 2.6 percent. Youth unemployment rate encompassing the age group between 15 and 24 realized as 19.2 percent decreasing by 4.8 percent, whereas the figure realized as 10.6 percent in the age group between 15 and 64 decreasing by 2.3 percent.

The number of employed people realized as 28 million 288 thousand in December 2017 increasing by 1 million 619 thousand compared to the same period of the previous year, resulting with an employment rate of 46.9 percent increasing by 1.8 percent. The number of employed were distributed as 18.3 percent in the agricultural sector, 19.5 percent in the industrial sector, 7.3 percent in the construction sector, and 55 percent in the services sector.

The employment participation rate realized as 52.4 percent

Labor force increased by 1 million 39 thousand in December 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year reaching 31 million 579 thousand, while the employment participation rate realized as 52.4 percent increasing by 0.8 percent. Upon comparison for the same period, the male employment participation rate realized as 71.7 percent increasing by 0.2 percent and the female employment participation rate realized as 33.5 percent increasing by 1.3 percent.
