Yapı Merkezi Chairman Başar Arıoğlu "We Will Achieve Traffic Guarantee for the Eurasia Tunnel by the End of the Year"

Yapı Merkezi İnşaat ve Sanayi A.Ş. Chairman Başar Arıoğlu informed the press about the infrastructure projects that they undertake.

Arıoğlu stated that Yapı Merkezi worked on tram, metro, railways and railway stations, repair and maintenance workshops, and made 85 percent of their turnover from the projects abroad. Emphasizing that the fastest and cheapest means of transport between Europe and Middle East would be railway, Arıoğlu reported that they wanted to benefit from the mobility in that region. He noted that they had ongoing railway projects in such countries as Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Morocco.

Reminding that they were responsible for construction works for the first part of İstanbul metro line, Arıoğlu stated that they were the first company to carry out electrification and signalization works alone in Ankara-Konya High-Speed Train line. Arıoğlu pointed out that while Turkish companies performed only the construction works and foreign partners performed the electrification and signalization works in 1980s, today they completed the latter class of work on their own. Noting that they they show their projects in Turkey as reference for the tenders abroad, Arıoğlu said that their ability to perform every stage of a railway boosted their competitive power abroad.

"We will achieve traffic guarantee for the Eurasia Tunnel by the end of the year":

Arıoğlu reminded that Eurasia Tunnel was one of the most significant projects in Turkey, and reported that the number of vehicles using the tunnel increased each day. Pointing out that a vehicle traffic of 20,000 vehicles per day had been achieved when the Eurasia Tunnel was put into service, Arıoğlu said: "The number of vehicles crossing the tunnel is continuously increasing. Now the daily traffic is above 50,000 vehicles. We believe that the traffic guarantee of 68,500 vehicles will be achieved by the end of this year. We are sure that we will achieve the traffic guarantee next year even if we fail this year. We will even start paying the government no later than 2020". Pointing out that 51 percent of vehicles crossing the Eurasia Tunnel travel from the European Side to the Asian Side and 49 percent vice versa, Arıoğlu said: "Eurasia Tunnel is the shortest way of its route as can be seen in navigation applications".

"We aim to put Çanakkale Bridge into service on March 18, 2022":

Arıoğlu said that they also continued the construction works of 1915 Çanakkale Bridge which will have the world's largest abutment clearance with 2,023 meters. Reminding that the official building period of the bridge was 66 months, Arıoğlu reported that they shortened this period and aimed to put the bridge into service on March 18, 2022.

Stating that early completion of projects in the build-operate-transfer model is good for the company, Arıoğlu said: "There is no obstacle before us with regard to the construction of the bridge. The General Directorate of Highways shows every effort for us to obtain all required licenses and clears the path for us". Pointing out that 1915 Çanakkale Bridge would be used more frequently by heavy vehicles such as trailers and buses once it is put into service, Arıoğlu said that a barrier system was considered to prevent illegal use. Noting that both Fast Toll Collection System (HGS) and Automatic Toll Collection System (OGS) would be available on the bridge, Arıoğlu said that removal of barriers to allow unobstructed passage might be considered later.

Yapı Merkezi A.Ş. General Director Özge Arıoğlu reminded that they undertook the superstructure construction works of the Yerköy-Sivas high-speed train line of Ankara-Sivas High-Speed Train Line Project, and reported that the line was built to support 300 km/h of travel speed.
Drawing attention to the 9th place of Yapı Merkezi İnşaat ve Sanayi A.Ş. in the rail rail transportation systems in a survey conducted by the American ENR Magazine to identify the world's top 250 international contracting companies, Arıoğlu said that it made them happy to see that Yapı Merkezi ranks in the top 100 in the general global list.
