Southern Gas Corridor Opens
President of Azerbaijan Aliyev: “We have confirmed reserves of 2.6 trillion. We want to sell more natural gas to Europe. The Southern Gas Corridor is the line which has re-shaped the energy map of Europe. The benefits of all stakeholders have been protected in this project.”
President of the Republic Erdoğan, “The steps we have taken together have played a major role in the rapid and smooth completion of this historical project. We will realize the opening of TANAP on June 12.”
The opening ceremony of the Southern Gas Corridor has been held in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, which consists of Shah-Deniz 2 seabed, Southern Caucasian Pipeline, Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) and Trans Adriatic Natural Gas Pipeline (TAP). President of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev, OPEC’s Secretary General Muhammed Barkindo and officials from countries and companies which are partners of the Southern Gas Corridor Project participated in the ceremony held at Sangachal Terminal. President of Azerbaijan Aliyev President of Azerbaijan İlham Aliyev extended his thanks during the speech he delivered at the opening ceremony to Turkey, Georgia, USA and the EU countries that played a major role in the realization of the project. Aliyev said that the project was realized thanks to an extensive regional cooperation and was put into life with the partnership of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Albania and Italy. Aliyev stating that a capital investment of over $ 40 billion has been made in the Southern Gas Corridor Project, said “We have confirmed reserves of 2.6 trillion. But I think that the actual figure exceeds this amount. We want to sell more natural gas to Europe. Europe is the most significant market for us. The Southern Gas Corridor is the line which has re-shaped the energy map of Europe. The benefits of all stakeholders have been protected in this project.” President of the Republic Erdoğan, “We will realize the opening of TANAP on June 12” The message of President of the Republic Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was also read out during the ceremony. Erdoğan stating that the completion of TANAP is a matter of pride for them which is an exemplifying project both in terms of bilateral relations with Azerbaijan and also in terms of regional cooperation, gave the following message: “TANAP is another product of our cooperation which will transform the fate of the region following Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipelines which we have successfully realized in the past and also after Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway in the transportation sector. The steps we have taken together have played a major role in the rapid and smooth completion of this historical project. It is of importance that the other projects within the scope of the Southern Gas Corridor are completed in due time which will enable gas flow to Europe from another source in the years to come. We will realize the opening of the line with a ceremony in Eskişehir on June 12 upon the initial flow of gas on TANAP today. We will feel great happiness to host you all in Eskişehir to witness the historical moment. I wish that TANAP will be of great benefit to our region and most of all to Turkey and Azerbaijan.” Pipe coupling and welding works are completed at TANAP Pipe coupling and welding works are also completed upon surface excavation works on the 56 inch section of the pipeline extending to Eskişehir upon entry to Turkey from Türkgözü village from Georgia at TANAP transiting Turkey at a length of 1850 km. Pipes have been laid into soil.
