Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) Project
TANAP General Director Saltuk Düzyol: "A ceremony much larger than the ground breaking ceremony will be held with a wider attendance. The contract with Azerbaijan is reasonable for BOTAŞ. It is likely to reduce the prices."
The details of the opening, scheduled to June 12, of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP), which will transfer Azerbaijan's gas to Turkey and Europe, have started to appear. TANAP General Director Saltuk Düzyol: "A ceremony much larger than the ground breaking ceremony will be held with a wider attendance. We expect the attendance of the President of Georgia in addition to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Attendance of high-ranking officials from the EU is also expected." Düzyol made a statement about the possibility to reschedule the commercial gas flow in TANAP from June 30 to June 12. Düzyol said: "The commitments in the contract require that the gas be pumped from June 30 but if the parties agree, we are ready to pump the gas on June 12. Everything is ready now in commercial terms." "TANAP may reduce natural gas supply prices in Turkey" Emphasizing that TANAP will reduce the natural gas supply prices in Turkey, Düzyol said: "BOTAŞ has the role of regulating the prices even if it is not legally obliged to do so. It has a price-setting role in the market. The contract with Azerbaijan is reasonable for BOTAŞ. It is likely to reduce the prices. This will eventually be reflected to consumers. There are "take-or-pay" liabilities in the entire natural gas trade. It will try to minimize the gas purchase from the countries that offer higher prices while maximizing the purchase from those which offer lower prices. And this will have a positive effect on the supply costs."
