Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released the labor force statistics for the month of April 2020.

According to data provided by TÜİK, the number of unemployed people overall Turkey at the age of 15 and over is recorded as 3,775,000 decreasing by 427,000 compared to the same period last year. The unemployment rate realized at a level of 12.8 percent decreasing by 0.2 points. The proportion of non-agricultural unemployment is recorded as 14.9 percent decreasing by 0.1 points.

The number of employed people is recorded as 25,614,000 in the given period decreasing by 2,585,000 people compared to the same period of the previous year resulting with an employment rate of 41.1 % with a decline of 4.9 points. 17.5% of the employed population were in the agricultural sector, 20.9% in the industrial sector, 4.9% in the construction sector and 56.7% in the services sector.

Labor force participation rate is 47.2 percent

Labor force participation realized as 29,388,000 people in April 2020 decreasing by 3,013,000 people compared to April 2019 and the labor force participation rate realized as 47.2 percent decreasing by 5.7 points.

Youth unemployment rate encompassing the age group between 15 and 24 realized as 24.4 % decreasing by 1.2 points compared to the same period of the previous year with an employment rate of 34.5 percent decreasing by 8.6 points.
