Mama Sougoufara, Middle East and Turkey Director General of French ALSTOM, one of the most leading companies in the field of railway and rail system technologies, has commented on his approach to Turkey market and activities in Turkey (to Ömer Temürün from Türkiye newspaper).

Beside freight transportation by bloc trains between Turkey and China over Middle Corridor called Iron Silk Road, transit transportation demand between China and Europe via Turkey increases day by day".

Noting Turkey has a unique position in terms of railway transportation, Sougoufara said, “Turkey is right in the center of Iron Silk Road maintaining incessant freight transportation between Baku-Kars-Tbilisi regional line section and Europe and China. Alstom focused on always supporting the Ministry of Transportation and TCDD in terms of improving the railway network with our advanced technologies. We closely follow market and opportunities for our both urban and main line operator users. We are Ready to Make Investment and to contribute to the improvement of railway sector in Turkey".

Furnishing information on projects inTurkey, Sougoufara went on to say, "We are in Turkey since1950. Beside metro vehicles and Taksim-4 Levent metro line, we provide major contributions to transportation in Turkey by supplying electrical multiple trains (EMU) and locomotives to TCDD."

"Our İstanbul Office is AMECA Regional Center for supply, signalization, turnkey and infrastructure projects"

Reporting in 2012  ALSTOM has transported Africa, Middle East and Central Asia (AMECA) Regional Center to Turkey, Sougoufara said, "Our İstanbul Office is AMECA Regional Center for supply, signalization, turnkey and infrastructure projects. Among the activities of regional center are region-wide tendering management, project management, engineering, supply, training and maintenance engineering services. We also engaged in designing, production, installation, test, commissioning, training and maintenance work of signalization, communication and ve energy feeding systems of Eskişehir-Kütahya-Balıkesir Line, 328 km main line.

In the process, we have applied our APS system, which is a continuous base level energy feeding system, on Eminönü-Alibeyköy tramcar line of 10.1 km with 14 stations. 9 km part of Tramcar line between Balat and Alibeyköy was officially inaugurated on 1 January 2021. Commercial operations started on 4 January 2021. TEBA:2001/ January 4, 2021 With this, ALSTOM has fully confident of the fact that more reliable transportation solutions would be provided to Turkey." .

Sougoufara has further noted that on vehicle ETCS equipments would be brought to Turkey in cooperation with ASELSAN.

As is known, ALSTOM and ASELSAN had signed a cooperation agreement for defining the framework of cooperation and coordination in the field of ETCS Signalization On Vehicle TEBA:1999/ December 22, 2020.

"Basic transportation demand continues to be intensive"

Noting railway sector has shown a long term and consistent growth in recent 20-30 year period, Sougoufara said, “According to UNIFE’s 2020 World Railway Market Study, sector has grown annually 3.6% as from 2017,  this growth comprises serious investments made mainly in the field of railway vehicle, infrastructure and rail control. Covid-19 pandemic caused a decrease in transportation volumes in 2020. Decreasing passenger and freight volumes led to a postponement of projects. However, along with the population of countries evolved to environmental policies mainly through urbanization and electrical transportation, basic transportation demand maintains its intensity. I believe in the fact that railway sector will rapidly recover and maintain the positive development”.
