1915 Çanakkale Bridge and Malkara-Çanakkale Motorway, constructed by DL E&C, Limak, SK Ecoplant and Yapı Merkezi partnership on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) investment model under the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (UAB) Highways General Directorate (KGM) has been awarded with a new prize in Europe. Gigantic Project was awarded European Steel Bridge Prize, which was given every two years by European Convention for Constructional Steelwork – ECCS for encouraging steel usage in modern bridges of our day. In the assessment of Selective Jury, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge was defined as the sister structure of Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and as the new symbol of the region. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, having the title of the "longest medium spam suspension bridge of 2023 m". and "the suspension bridge with the highest tower of the world with 334 m.”, has been named as the "important example of modern mega engineering" by European Structural Steel Union. Project was chosen as the best of Europe in Highway and Railway Bridge Category. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge connecting Europe to Asia is the new symbol of the region: In the assessment of Jury, 1915 Çanakkale Bridge connecting Europe to Asia is named as the sister bridge of Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Prof. Dr. Nesrin Yardımcı Tiryakioğlu of the Jury members, first female executive board Chairperson of ECCS, who held the Chairperson position for two times at five year intervals, owner of ECCS Silver Medal and Charles Massonnet Science Prize has said on the prize; “1915 Çanakkale Bridge was constructed as resistant to strong winds and earthquake risks in the region. This mega engineering structure has been highly appreciated from architectural perspective. Utilization of high resistant steel in conformity with the structure in the suspension bridge which was constructed at a record time, in four years, has secured the operations to be carried out rapidly, strongly and sustainable. 1915 Çanakkale Bridge constitutes a rich example for modern steel structures of today.” Europe Steel Bridge Prizes will be given at a ceremony to be held on 21 September 2022 at İstanbul InterContinental Hotel by Turkish Structural Steel Association (TUCSA) in coordination with 10th International Steel Bridges Symposium (SBIS 2022) organized by ECCS.
