TANAP Director General Düzyol, Turkish Stream is Not the Rival of TANAP

Düzyol, "Turkish Stream will contribute to supply security by creating route diversification. When investment decision taken within the context of TANAP, 15-year gas transportation agreements were signed and within this context, amount and transportation tariff of gas to be taken from the pipeline were taken under guarantee. For this reason, Turkish Stream is out of question to be the rival of TANAP in short term."

Saltuk Düzyol, Director General of Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP) to carry natural gas to Europe from Azerbaijan, has noted that Turkish Stream to carry Russian gas to Europe via Turkey is out of question to be the rival of TANAP in short term". Communicating the energy requirement of rapidly growing Turkey economy is increasing day by day, Düzyol has said that all natural gas pipelines to pass through the country will contribute to energy supply security.

Underlining for Turkish Stream project is a pipeline passing through the Black Sea, dependency on other transit countries will be removed, Düzyol went on to say,

"Turkish Stream will contribute to supply security of Turkey by creating route diversification. When investment decision taken within the context of TANAP, 15 year gas transportation agreements were also signed and within this context, the amount and transportation tariff of gas to be flown in pipeline were guaranteed. For this reason, Turkish Stream is out of question to be the rival of TANAP in short term".

"The price of Russian gas on Turkey-Greece border will be determining in taking decisions towards export of source countries in the East of Turkey"

Düzyol has noted that there will be a competition among the companies to trade gas and to transport gas on these two pipelines and said, "Particularly, when capacity increase considered for TANAP, the price of Russian gas on Turkey-Greece border will be determining in taking decisions towards export of source countries in the East of Turkey".

Reminding the parties involved have right to revise the price mutually at certain periods in gas purchase-sale agreements, Düzyol said, "Price of gas coming from alternative sources, is always taken as reference in price bargainings from buyer countries perspective. Thus, existence of two pipelines will lead price competition between Russian and Azeri gas. The competition of gas with gas will serve to the benefit of end users both in Turkey and European Union".
