Contacts Made by Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek in China

Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek who is also the Co-Chairman of the Cooperation Committee between the Turkish and Chinese Governments conducts a series of official meetings in China where he arrived on December 14, 2017 upon the invitation of China’s Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yang. Şimşek is expected to leave China on December 18, 2017.

Şimşek having realized a meeting between delegations with China’s Deputy Prime Minister Wang Yang said “Turkey considers China as one of its most significant strategic partners.” In return, Yang made the statement “We want to conduct studies to enhance cooperation with Turkey in all areas” and pointed out to the importance of Turkey’s focusing on the Middle Corridor Plan with the Belt and Road initiative which is a re-vitalization project of China for the Silk Road. The deepening of economic cooperation possibilities between the two countries has been emphasized during the meeting.

Şimşek also came together with the officials of economy and finance institutions

Deputy Prime Minister Şimşek also met today with the officials of economy and finance institutions, namely Asian Infrastructure Investments Bank, Chinese Investment Institution and the Central Bank of China and gave information to his counterparts on the economic environment and the investment climate in Turkey. Şimşek also came together with the officials of several other finance institutions in Beijing such as the Central Bank of China, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and Bank of China (BOC).

Şimşek having met the Chairman of the Board of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) Yi Huiman, took up the issue of relations between Turkey and ICBC and the cooperation potential with future prospects. Huiman in return stated that they as ICBC attribute great importance to major scale projects in Turkey particularly in the areas of infrastructure and energy.

Şimşek also coming together with the officials of the “Silk Road Fund” which constitutes a basis for the “Belt and Road” project initiated by China’s President Xi Jinping, will also conduct bilateral talks with prominent companies of China in the fields of energy, electronics and technology within the framework of contacts in Shanghai which will constitute the second phase of the visit.

Ziraat (Agricultural) Bank secured loans from China Development Bank

On the other hand, Ziraat (Agricultural) Bank undersigned a loan agreement of $ 600 million with China Development Bank with a term of three years. The Bank stated that an agreement has been signed for the first credit tranche of $ 200 million and the second credit tranche of $ 400 million will be used in the first quarter of 2018.
