Important Statements by GENSED Chairman

GENSED Chairman Demirdağ: "The support that will be provided for solar energy technologies will contribute to solving the problem of current deficit, which is the weakest link of our economy, and help enhance our national energy policies"...

Halil Demirdağ, the Chairman of the Association of Solar Energy Industrialists and Industry (GENSED), made important statements after he assumed the office.

Also the Chairman of Smart Energy, Demirdağ emphasized that they would play an essential role in the development of the industry, and said: "We will work to utilize this potential that has many positive implications for a lot of things from current deficit to employment because the faster the solar energy industry grows, the faster the Turkish economy will develop".

Pointing out that Turkey has a great potential in solar energy to be utilized, Demirdağ said: "As industrialists investing in solar energy in Turkey, we have a crucial mission for the future of our country. If our country seizes the opportunity in the field of solar energy, transfer of funds to abroad ma be prevented and the current deficit will not be a burden on the next generations any longer. Each 10 MW of solar power plant established generates power equal to $1 million worth of power generated by petroleum and natural gas per year. Considering that panels have up to 30 years of service life, this amount reaches $30 million. Commissioning of more than 5,000 MW of solar power plants this year means that $500 million of power has been generated by the sun, which is a natural resource. Moreover, investing in the solar energy technology which enables to generate power wherever one can see the sky is far less costly than investing in exploration and extraction of underground resources. The support that will be provided for solar energy technologies will contribute to solving the problem of current deficit, which is the weakest link of our economy, and help enhance our national energy policies. Clean energy implies reduction of our external dependency in natural gas and coal, hence an exponential development of our economy. Let's not miss this opportunity and work together to let the sun vivify our economy."

Stating that solar energy is a serious branch of business that brings along new opportunities, Demirdağ said: "In addition to contributing to the energy independence and reduction of the current deficit, this industry will open up new markets and create new employment opportunities. We must look for energy in the sky, not under the ground. We should never give up the solar energy technology that allows us to generate electricity wherever we see the sky. We know that it is not an easy task but we are determined to do our best to grow the solar energy industry in Turkey and ensure that it is known for further growth and enhancement, innovation, R&D and high quality. We will work ambitiously to ensure that Turkey has a voice at global scale in the field of solar energy, the fastest-growing source of renewable energy worldwide. This is one of our major objectives."
