TMB Chairman Yenigün: "Our contractors have recently shifted their focus to overseas projects due to increased challenges in Turkey, and undertaken 130 projects worth $5.6 billion in January to July 2019. We aim to achieve the new project amount of $20 billion as we did in 2018. It is very important to grow the scales of companies, improve their inter-operability and enhance our technical consultancy industry in order to enhance our position in international markets further"...

According to the statement made by the Turkish Contractors Association (TMB), Turkey had 44 companies, making it only second to China, in the list of the "World's Top 250 International Contractors) published by the international construction industry magazine ENR (Engineering News Record) based on the overseas operations of contractors in the previous year.

According to the ENR data, construction industry was among the industries most affected by the global economic uncertainty, and the size of the construction market grew from $482.4 billion to $487.3 billion with only a 1-percent increase. The size of the global market was $500 to 544 billion in 2012 to 2014. It is stated in the ENR newsletter titled "The Global Market Bears Risks" that the global construction industry showed a weak performance in 2018 and the risks prevailed in the industry.

According to the statement of TMB, there were 44 Turkish companies in the ENR's list in 2018. The Turkish companies in the list had a total market share of 4.6% in 2018. The share of Turkish contractors in regional revenues increased from 9.7% to 10.4% for Middle East, a primary market, decreased from 4% to 2.1% in Asia. The market share of Turkish companies had a small change with 5.6% in Africa, and a limited increase in Europe with 7%.

TMB Chairman Mithat Yenigün:

Turkish Contractors Association (TMB) Chairman Mithat Yenigün made the following statement after the ENR's list was announced: "Despite fragilities in the global and national economies, it was very remarkable to maintain our position in the 'global giants' league' with 44 companies, out of which 40 companies are TMB members. Our contractors have recently shifted their focus to overseas projects due to increased challenges in Turkey, and undertaken 130 projects worth $5.6 billion in January to July 2019. This means that 9,782 projects worth $386 billion were carried out in 124 countries as part of our contracting services overseas. We aim to achieve the new project amount of $20 billion as we did in 2018. It is very important to grow the scales of companies, improve their inter-operability and enhance our technical consultancy industry in order to enhance our position in international markets further."
