Agreements are Signed between Turkiye and Morocco on Areas of Energy and Mining

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar conducted vis-à-vis talks and meetings at the delegation level with Morocco’s Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Minister Leila Benali. Two agreements are signed between Turkiye and Morocco during the meetings on areas of energy and mining.

It is stated in a disclosure made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources that the agreements target to develop relations between the two countries in a number of fields in energy and primarily in renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity, hydrogen, oil, natural gas, mining and critical minerals and to put joint projects into life.

Minister Bayraktar pointing out in his statement on the matter that Turkiye has a considerable potential of acquiring liquefied natural gas (LNG) continued as follows: “Morocco at this point seeks solutions regarding the matter and we stated that we can be the solution. We talked of a possible supply agreement to be made together.” Bayraktar pointing out that a step has been taken to enhance cooperation between the two countries even further, spoke as follows:

“Morocco has serious potential both in solar power and wind power and also in offshore wind power in the field of renewable energy. In this respect, we discussed how we can mobilize such a joint potential. Turkiye has a considerable potential of acquiring liquefied natural gas (LNG) owing to investments made recently. Morocco at this point seeks solutions regarding the matter and we stated that we can be the solution. We talked of a possible supply agreement to be made together. In this respect, there are projects which we can develop jointly in a number of fields, namely green hydrogen and other areas in the energy sector.”

The technical committee will convene

Bayraktar underlining that they want to put forward tangible projects regarding the topics in question, made the following statement: “We will put these forward in a clear manner by means of a technical committee which we will bring together in the beginning of July. We will discuss which projects we can develop in the mining sector and other areas with our public companies and the private sector. We will be carrying out studies to enhance commercial relations between the two countries even further.”

As will be recalled, Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development was planning to announce a tender in the coming summer months for a floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Nador West Med port on the northeast of the country TEBA:June 13, 2024 A two-phase tender was announced for the 400 MW Nassim Nord Wind Power Project of Morocco’s Sustainable Energy Agency with an application deadline of June 24, 2024 TEBA:April 30, 2024
